Suryanamaskar – A Salute to The Sun

Surya Namaskar is ancient

The Rig Veda describes the sun as: The remover of all weakness Healer of all illness, Lord of al that stands on goes, He slays the demons, And guards the worshipper…

Finally it states: We meditate in the adorable glory of the radiant sun. May he inspire our intelligence. Surya Namaskar, meaning, “Salutation of the Sun”, can be seen as a form of worship of the Sun, and all that it represents on the micro and the macrocosmic levels. You may have read that the practice of Suryanamaskar revitalises the body and mind and helps to eradicate disease, but you must practice the technique in order to find out the truth for yourself.

Surya Namaskar is a practice which has been handed down from the sages of vedic times. It is more than ‘just a series of physical exercises’. Of course it stretches, massages, tones and stimulates all the muscles, and all the organs, but it alse has the depth and completeness of a spiritual practice.
